Welcome to Redfiend Publishing

Redfiend Publishing is pleased to announce the upcoming release of Maud Blessingbourne’s Temptations and Other Poems by Alexander Theroux.

This very special collection offers to the reader a gathering of poems on a wide variety of subjects, ranging from its signature title—essentially a confession, frank, quirky, but meaningful, of a headstrong young artist in Paris, orphaned early, and her vivid, self-igniting and passionate search for grace—to the kind of splendid, if idiosyncratic, array of poems, typical of Alexander Theroux, more than 350 in all, touching on Henry David Thoreau, the mysteries of nature, Jewish comedians, Cape Cod graveyards, glacial America, potato plants, the mysteries of Jesus, and, among other topics, his two young children. Here is a fund of lyric poems, ballads, novels-in-stories, dramatic monologues, sonnets, and elegies.  “He can sprout flowers from his fingers,” as John Updike once wrote of Theroux.

The exquisite cover art is by Edward Gorey.

One hundred numbered, autographed copies of the first edition hardcover book, with a custom-designed bookplate, are available for purchase from Redfiend Publishing. Reserved your copy now.

Redfiend Publishing is pleased to announce the release of Badass Mizia by Lauren Fairbanks.

Artemisia Gentileschi was a highly acclaimed seventeenth century painter. In Badass Mizia, the author delves into the life and work of the painter, a woman who suffered greatly at a young age in a period when the achievements of women were not recognized and easily diminished. This novel reimagines her parentage, her relationships with her father, contemporaries like Caravaggio, her achievements and ultimate triumph. By way of a series of urgent, confessional monologues, Lauren Fairbanks provides a kaleidoscopic view of the life and times of an extraordinary painter, ‘a she-wolf representing the darkness, the lightness of all women.’ Gentileschi and her circle offer accounts of their traumas and triumphs in a quirky style that is both Baroque and modern. There is insightful art criticism on both Gentileschi and her fellow painters, and sharp social criticism of the role of women in patriarchal society.

Alexander Theroux said of this book:

Badass Mizia is an astonishing portrait of Artemisia, a formidable confession in the Augustinian sense, with a deft, comprehensive personality emerging, splendid in detail, rich in historical matter, powerful in narrative. Several innovative chapters—astutely, daringly, confidently—actually break ground in the genre, always a sign of genius! The brilliant paintings of course enhance the entire book. A wonderful novel.

Redfiend Publishing is pleased to announce the release of Alexander Theroux’s new book Spite; or, Wounds That Wouldn’t Heal on December 1, 2025.

Spite is a remarkable collection of rich, up-to-date, and astonishingly original short stories, a body of ten unsparing and implacable narratives, each with a different setting and plot – the reprisal for a bitter event in the fourth grade; a hot dog vendor's one nemesis in New York City; an account of several hair-raising murders in Maine; a prep school teacher plagued by a revengeful former student, and several other tales culled from his razor-sharp memory of hurtful personal moments based on his own life. This is a book to be placed fittingly with two other assemblages of his truly memorable short stories, his Early Stories (2021) and Later Stories(2022).

One hundred numbered, autographed copies of the first edition hardcover book, with a custom-designed bookplate, are available for purchase from Redfiend Publishing.
